Etsy love and blogland lurkers

Surfing Etsy used to be one of my favourite time-killers when Tamara was just a couple weeks old. There, I could see loads of new, exciting stuff every day. I could day-dream of buying pieces of really nicely crafted jewlery. I could make plans for my next craftsy projects, because, there are just so many marvelous ideas, realized and submitted from people all around the globe. I guess, it was my imagination food.

As days passed there was not so much time to surf Etsy, but I still do check it from time to time. Last week I stumbled upon this gorgeaus shop -Star of the East. Those of you who know me will instantly tell that it’s not just the jewlery which they sell that has attracted my attention. My love for Turkey and everything Turkish is one aspect of the attraction to this shop.  And the other one is this nice description of bloggers on her Blog.

We talked about this (to us fascinating fact) with Grasswire just a cuple of days ago and I wonder wether it’s just us who noticed, or would you also agree that there are so many female blogs, it looks like the whole blogosphere is predominatly female. On the other hand, it may be that we are just attracted to more ‘female’ poits of interest.

Anyway, what I wanted to share with you is this paragraph, which is such a nice tribute to us, female bloggers, written by the Star of the East:

“… the blogs I love are the ‘daily life – real people’ kind. All those women out there, raising their kids, cooking their food, knitting their socks, gardening, sewing, painting, nursing, caring , working ,worrying, loving…
It is overwhelming, so much energy, so many skills…”
You can read the whole post here.

It’s really strange to make a photo-less post. So, here are main reasons I want to travel to Turkey soon again:

Frogging already

Ahhhhh. I was so enthusiastic about my Drops 96-2 jacket -especially since it took quite some time to decide which knit I am going to work on after Baby moderne – that my fingers simply couldn’t wait to get hold of the needles. So, after two evenings of knitting, here’s the result:

red_detail

Approximately 20 cm of the back of the cardigan and I  really like it :)

But, but. There’s always this but.

I used one skein to make these 20 cm and having 6 skeins altogether this means I can only make a vest, not a cardigan. I am really not into vests (not with this pattern, anyway).
I have 4 more skeins of the same yarn in grey colour, so I thought I could make grey sleeves. After consulting with my top-fashion-consultant (my husband), this idea was discarded. Hmmmm. Hopes of getting four more skeins of this yarn equal zero (bought it almost 2 years ago in a shop that doesn’t exist anymore), so I guess I should work on choosing another pattern. And frogging this. At least the latter is not too physically demanding. ;)

I am thinking about Bi coloured cables jacket (this way I get to use both colours of the yarn in a more constructive way).

And as if all this wasn’t enough as I was preparing to write today’s post, I read WryPunster’s post of today which deals with exactly the same things I was thinking of how to put into words.
I think every knitter has gone through this several times, so go, read it, it’s fantastic.

Finally I made a decision about my next project. It took quite some time and I did a lot of peeking around on Ravelry (so many beautiful projects!), but here it is – Drops jacket no 96-2.

Actually, this is only where I start. Since I will use another type of yarn, which I think doesn’t fit this pattern totaly, I will make loads of changes. I will omit the structural part of sleeves and back and just do the stockinette. We’ll se how that goes and I’ll keep you updated. And here’s my beautiful yarn. I’ve pulled it out of my stash, since after going through all those patterns I wasn’t quite sure which one I really wanted to make with the green yarn. Meet ‘Granada’ from Lana Gatto. I have 6 skeins which I hope will be sufficient for the jacket. If not, I’ll just have to make more changes to the pattern, I assume ;) Granada Lana Gatto

Saturday in town

I love Saturday mornings – usually we spend them in town, shopping for fresh (well, more or less) produce from our local market. It’s really a small market – just a couple of stalls, but after a couple of years we have became very familiar with the sellers. Now, for example, we are in the category ‘baby eggs’, which means that the old man who is selling eggs will save us 10 freshest eggs, because, you know, we have a baby and a baby should eat only fresh eggs. :)

This Saturday it was just us, girls, because Grasswire had to work.
So, on the way back home we stopped for a coffe. Which is a thing we usually do on Saturdays after the shopping. As I was sitting outside, feeding Tamara, I had a glimpse at the coffe-table and –ooohhh!– I couldn’t believe my eyes. If somebody told me two years ago that this is what my life (and my Saturday morning coffe) would turn into, I’d call them crazy.

There, go figure yourself.

My little model

A quick note for all Tamara fans that read this blog.

Today, we’ve been to our regular check-up. When we put her on the scale it showed 8.830 gramms. The nurse said she’s got the measures of a model. I assume that was a polite way of saying she’s quite slim ;)

Well, after a couple of months of not being so sure, now I can say with total confidence that she likes to eat.  And she eats so much, I wonder where all that food goes?

Here she is, my little model, sitting in grass posing for me (not!) two weeks ago:
